Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam Sign MOU to Strengthen Pilot Training Cooperation

On the afternoon of March 17, 2026, at Bamboo Airways’ headquarters in Hanoi, Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 2026, strengthening cooperation between the two parties and aiming to implement training plans and build a self-sufficient pilot workforce to support the airline’s next phase of development.

Mr. Truong Phuong Thanh – CEO of Bamboo Airways and Mr. Tran Trong Nhan – CEO of BAA Training Vietnam sign the 2026 Memorandum of Understanding

Under the signed MOU, Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam will continue to collaborate on pilot training programs, with a focus on the Multi-Crew Pilot License (MPL) program. The program aims to build a structured training pathway, combining theory, simulation, and practical training, with the majority conducted in Vietnam. This allows trainees to quickly familiarize themselves with operational procedures, safety culture, and Bamboo Airways’ operational standards.
Within the framework of this renewed cooperation, both parties plan to enhance professional exchanges in refining the MPL training program, improve training efficiency, explore opportunities to expand training for regional students, and further optimize the transition from training to real operations. Close coordination between the training organization and the airline is expected to enhance training quality while shortening trainees’ adaptation time when entering commercial aviation environments.
Over more than seven years of Bamboo Airways’ operations, BAA Training has actively partnered with the airline to implement various pilot training programs, including A320F and Embraer type rating training, as well as MPL basic training. These programs have delivered positive results, with graduates joining Bamboo Airways and other airlines, receiving high evaluations for their professional competence.
In parallel, BAA Training Vietnam provides thousands of simulator (SIM) training hours annually for Bamboo Airways and collaborates in recurrent training activities, contributing to maintaining operational capability in line with safety standards and enhancing the quality of the airline’s pilot workforce.
“The signing of the 2026 MOU between Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam will serve as a foundation for both parties to recruit and train the next MPL cohort, immediately after receiving approval from the relevant authorities,” said Bamboo Airways CEO Truong Phuong Thanh at the event.

The 2026 Memorandum of Understanding opens opportunities to strengthen and elevate cooperation between the two parties in pilot training

On the side of BAA Training Vietnam, CEO Tran Trong Nhan expressed confidence that the MOU would usher in a more successful phase of cooperation between Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam. “At the same time, this provides reassurance to trainees regarding clear career orientation and job opportunities after completing training – a crucial factor for young pilots,” he said.
The MPL program jointly developed by Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam focuses primarily on practical training using commercial aircraft such as the A320F, with most training conducted in Vietnam and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam in January 2023. The first MPL cohort in Vietnam graduated in September 2025 and has moved on to the actual flight training phase.
The signing of the 2026 MOU marks the next step in the partnership between Bamboo Airways and BAA Training Vietnam, while strengthening the airline’s plan to proactively develop a high-quality workforce to support its recovery and growth strategy for the 2026–2030 period.
As part of its new development plan, Bamboo Airways aims to expand its fleet, adding 8–10 aircraft annually and restoring a fleet size of 30 aircraft in line with the government-approved strategy.

In addition, Bamboo Airways founder Trinh Van Quyet has held discussions with representatives of Boeing to review plans for restarting previously signed aircraft purchase agreements. This includes the potential resumption of wide-body Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner deliveries, as well as considering leasing additional next-generation narrow-body Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to enhance operational flexibility in the upcoming period.

Alongside pilot workforce development, Bamboo Airways is also accelerating plans to recruit 1,000 flight attendants, providing training aligned with industry standards and the airline’s distinctive hospitality culture.
